Hey there! I’m Fern, the thrifting-obsessed woman behind My Resale Hub! If you love great deals, unique finds, and shopping sustainably, you’re in the right place. I’m so excited to launch this online resale store and share a little bit about how it all came to be!
From Hand-Me-Downs to a Life of Thrifting
Thrifting isn’t just something I do – it’s a part of who I am. I grew up wearing secondhand clothes and hand-me-downs from my two older sisters. My mom was always good at taking something old and making it new again.
Fast forward to adulthood, and after getting married and divorced, I found myself a single mom with two little ones (ages 5 and 3) and a big dream. For 25 years, I owned a brick-and-mortar consignment store, raising my kids on the very items that I sold. That store wasn’t just a business – it was also my heart and soul. It provided for my family, filled our home with amazing treasures, clothed me and my children, and connected me with an incredible community of secondhand lovers.
A New Chapter (And a New Love!)
But life has a funny way of pushing us towards new adventures. After years of running my store, I made the bold decision to go back to school (at age 40!) and become a counsellor. Eventually, I sold my store and started my journey as a marriage therapist – a career that has been deeply rewarding.
Then Covid hit, and like so many others, I had to pivot. I took my counselling practice online, and as it turned out, I loved working from home. No commute, total flexibility, and plenty of time to spend with my sweet rescue pup, Honey.
Somewhere along the way, I met my wonderful partner. He swept me off my feet, and I packed up my life and moved to his hometown of Logan Lake BC, to be with him. He spends a lot of time working away, and while I love my online counselling practice, I need something to keep me busy when he is away. Enter My Resale Hub!
Why an Online Thrift Store?
Honestly? I’m always thrifting, and I love the thrill of the hunt. There’s nothing better than sifting through racks and spotting that one amazing piece waiting for a second chance. And then it hit me – if I’m already in the thrift shops anyway, why not help other people out? These days, people are working harder than ever just to make ends meet, and thrift shop hours don’t always work well with our schedules. Plus, let’s be real – some people just don’t enjoy the hunt like I do.
That’s where My Resale Hub comes in! I wanted to bring the secondhand store experience online – making it easy for you to shop quality resale for women's clothing, men's clothing, kitchen & dining goods, bedding and bath goods, home decor and accents, books & gifts, and so much more without ever having to dig through the bargain bins or leave the couch!
Loving My Life
Despite spending decades in the fashion resale business, I’ve never been much of a fashionista. I’m a tomboy at heart - jeans and t-shirts are my go-to. And my home? No flashy trends there either. It’s all about a simple, rustic country feel that suits my rural lifestyle perfectly. Every piece has been collected over time, a mix of unique secondhand finds that tell a story. I even have a cozy off-grid cabin on a fishing lake, where life slows down, and the simple things matter most to me. Best of all, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have the love of my life by my side and the freedom to adjust my schedule so that I can truly enjoy it.
More Than Just a Great Deal
Yes, I do love a good bargain. But My Resale Hub is about more than that. It’s about sustainability – keeping perfectly good items out of landfills and giving them a second life. It’s my hobby, my side hustle, and something that brings me pure joy.
